The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced that it is working with Israeli authorities to secure clearance for the possible evacuation of 922 Ghanaians currently in Israel. This follows the intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran.
In an official update shared on Facebook on Tuesday, June 16, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, revealed that among the identified individuals are 65 Ghanaian students enrolled in six different Israeli universities.
Mr. Ablakwa confirmed that there have been no reported injuries or fatalities involving Ghanaians in either Israel or Iran. He also stated that evacuation efforts from Iran are already in progress.
However, evacuation from Israel remains on hold due to the country’s state of emergency and the complete closure of its borders. Clearance must be granted by the Israeli government before any evacuation plans can be executed.
The Ghanaian Embassy in Israel has established regular communication with the Ghanaian community. All Ghanaian nationals have been given access to bomb shelters. Embassy staff are working remotely following safety guidance from the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
Mr. Ablakwa further disclosed that a full emergency evacuation plan has already been approved and will be activated once Israel gives the green light.
He assured the public that the administration of President John Dramani Mahama is committed to safeguarding all Ghanaians affected by the escalating situation.
More updates are expected as the Ministry continues diplomatic efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of Ghanaians abroad.
