Ghana Gold Board and National Security have arrested six Indian nationals, including three recent suspects, for illegal gold trading in the Eastern Region.
The Ghana Gold Board, working in close collaboration with National Security, has successfully thwarted an illegal gold smuggling attempt involving foreign nationals. In a recent operation carried out in Anyinam, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana, three Indian nationals were arrested for engaging in unauthorized gold trading activities.
This brings the total number of Indian nationals arrested for illegal gold trading to six. The first set of arrests occurred on April 29, 2025—prior to the Ghana Gold Board’s official directive that required all foreign nationals to exit the country’s gold trading sector.
According to police sources, several items were confiscated during the latest operation, including gold bars, large sums of cash, and money-counting machines—pointing to a well-organized illegal operation.
Prince Minkah, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Gold Board, confirmed that the suspects will be arraigned and made to face the full rigour of Ghanaian law.
The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts by Ghanaian authorities to sanitize the gold trading sector and ensure compliance with national regulations.
