The Western North Regional Health Directorate is raising concern over mental health in the area. A recent survey shows that 3.8% of residents suffer from mental disorders.

The Bibiani Government Hospital has launched activities to mark Mental Health Awareness Month. This is part of the national “Purple Month” campaign. The goal is to raise awareness, fight stigma, and improve access to mental health care.

Mental Health Officer Elijah Boateng spoke at the launch. He encouraged people to seek treatment without fear or shame. He stressed that mental health is just as important as physical health.

Nana Ato Oware, Chief of Bassengele and chairperson of the event, also urged families to support relatives with mental health issues. He advised them to get help from medical professionals.

Dr. Paulina Clara Appiah, Regional Health Director, said the 3.8% mental health rate is a serious concern. She called for urgent action to address the problem in the region.

The hospital hopes that by joining this national campaign, more people in Bibiani and nearby areas will talk openly about mental health. They want residents to seek care and use available services.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that mental wellbeing matters. Everyone deserves access to support and treatment.
