The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has called on the managers of the Bogoso Prestea Mine to answer questions about poor working conditions. The mine is now run by Heat GoldFields, a new company that took over operations recently.
The Minister gave the order during a visit to the mine. This follows many complaints from workers.
Some of the issues raised include: Delays in salary payments, Broken and rusting equipment and Failure to follow contract terms.
Minister Nelson said he was shocked by what he saw. He told the media, “You heard the workers. They haven’t been paid for months. The mine is falling apart. The equipment is rusting. This new company is not doing well at all.”
The Minister’s visit and strong words may lead to more action from the government. He said urgent steps must be taken to fix the problems at the mine. This move shows the government’s concern about worker welfare and safety in the mining sector.
