The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has returned home after undergoing medical treatment in the United Kingdom. In her first public statement since her recovery, the Vice President expressed heartfelt gratitude:

“His mercies have been infinite, as always, and I’m very grateful,” she said. “I thank the medical staff for their quick action and the excellent care I received.”

She also extended her appreciation to President Mahama for his immediate response when her condition was first diagnosed.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang singled out Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, the President’s brother, for his exceptional support during her treatment:

“He stopped at nothing to ensure I had what I needed. His presence at the hospital alone was healing,” she noted.

President Mahama expressed relief and joy at her return:

“You’ve been greatly missed. Ghana is on the right track, and you’re back at the perfect time to continue the work you started so beautifully.”

He also used the occasion to call for improvements in Ghana’s healthcare system, emphasizing the need to fully equip the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to handle medical emergencies locally.

The Vice President’s health became a national concern after she fell ill on March 28, 2025. She was first admitted to the UGMC before being flown abroad for further treatment. Her condition had sparked public speculation, which was later dispelled by government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who confirmed she was stable and receiving care. A statement from the Presidency in late March confirmed her need for additional treatment overseas, with assurances that she was responding well.

With her return, Professor Opoku-Agyemang is expected to resume official duties shortly. Her presence brings renewed energy to the Presidency, and her recovery is being celebrated across the country.
