President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana’s highly anticipated 24-hour economy policy will officially begin on July 1, 2025. The initial phase will see Tema and Takoradi ports operate around the clock to support the export of perishable horticultural produce and drive agro-industrial transformation.

The announcement came at the Ghana Horticulture Expo 2025, where the President outlined a robust vision to modernize agriculture, expand exports, and stabilize the Ghanaian cedi through increased foreign exchange earnings.

“This initiative isn’t just about working extra hours. It’s about enabling continuous production with the right logistics, energy, digital platforms, and cold chain infrastructure,” Mahama explained. The policy will drastically reduce post-harvest losses and create a thriving export sector for pineapples, mangoes, herbs, and more.

Mahama also unveiled a comprehensive four-pillar strategy under the Feed Ghana programme (2025–2028), which includes:

Scaling up greenhouse farming through the Vegetable Development Project.

Providing mechanization, irrigation, and climate-smart farming support.

Building Agri-Industrial Zones with cold storage and export-ready logistics.

Launching Agribusiness Youth Clinics for training and startup support.

“Our goal is to exceed $10 billion in non-traditional exports by 2030,” he stated, urging banks and development partners to invest in agribusiness not as donors, but as real economic collaborators. “The world is ready for top-tier Ghanaian exports—let’s meet that demand,” he said.
