Minority Threatens Lawsuit Over Unratified Damang Mine Lease Renewal

Ghana’s Minority in Parliament has warned it will seek legal redress over the government’s failure to submit the renewed Damang Mine lease for parliamentary ratification. The lease, granted to Gold Fields Ghana for 12 months, is part of transitional arrangements finalized in April 2025.

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh insists that this omission undermines parliamentary oversight and breaches constitutional requirements for transparency in mining agreements.

The Damang Mine deal, aimed at maintaining operations and preserving jobs, must undergo legislative scrutiny to ensure environmental responsibility and national interest protection, the Minority argues.
