The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has developed a clear strategic direction to support the government’s ambitious 24-Hour Economy initiative, according to Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 19th cadet intake at the Immigration Academy and Training School in Assin Foso, Central Region, on Wednesday, June 25, Muntaka emphasized the importance of fast, efficient service delivery, particularly in the processing of immigration permits within a 24-hour timeframe.
“The Service must maintain momentum and show tenacity in meeting the goals of the 24-Hour Economy,” he urged.
As part of broader reforms, the Interior Minister revealed that the residence permit process will be automated, making it faster and less cumbersome for foreign nationals.
“I encouraged the GIS to adopt innovative, tech-driven approaches to enhance migration management and service efficiency,” Muntaka wrote on Facebook after the event.
He reaffirmed GIS’s critical role as the nation’s first line of defense, responsible not only for safeguarding Ghana’s borders but also for regulating movement in and out of the country, including visa and permit issuance.
Muntaka also praised the newly graduated cadets for their resilience and dedication during training. He encouraged them to uphold the values of discipline, professionalism, and integrity in their national service.
“Serve with an unwavering commitment to duty. The standards instilled in you must reflect in your work,” he said.
The Interior Ministry’s alignment of the GIS with the 24-Hour Economy signals a forward-thinking approach to governance—balancing security, efficiency, and economic development in Ghana’s immigration system.
