Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the flagship subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, is set to extend its proven waste management solutions to Burkina Faso following a high-level meeting with Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of Zoomlion, led a delegation that met with Prime Minister Ouédraogo, accompanied by Burkina Faso’s Minister in Charge of the Environment, Roger Baro, and the Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Ghana, Major Colonel David Kabré. This meeting marked a pivotal step toward launching a comprehensive integrated waste management project in Burkina Faso.

The initiative aims to cover the entire waste management value chain in Burkina Faso, including:

  • Waste collection
  • Waste recovery
  • Recycling
  • Treatment

This project is a key outcome of ongoing discussions between Ghanaian and Burkinabe authorities, including Ghana’s President’s official visit to Burkina Faso in March 2025. It forms part of a broader south-south cooperation framework focused on sustainable development and creating employment opportunities for youth.

With over 20 years of expertise and operations across 24 African countries, Zoomlion plans to deploy its tested technologies and management models from Ghana to tackle Burkina Faso’s environmental challenges effectively.

Prime Minister Ouédraogo applauded the initiative, emphasizing its dual benefits of promoting local expertise and boosting youth employment while addressing environmental health concerns. He reaffirmed his government’s support for investors who contribute to national development.

Dr. Agyepong expressed strong confidence in Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s vision to accelerate job creation and prosperity. He also announced the imminent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Environment, a crucial step before starting infrastructure work.

Importantly, Zoomlion plans to train Burkinabe youth in Ghana, ensuring that the local workforce will manage the waste management operations in Burkina Faso.

“We are not going to import Ghanaian workers to Burkina Faso. We will train young Burkinabe people who will take charge of waste management in their country,” Dr. Agyepong stated.

This cross-border partnership reinforces regional cooperation, sustainable environmental management, and youth empowerment across West Africa.
