STMA Accounts For Development Projects At Media Briefing

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement by updating members of the media on its development activities, ongoing projects, and future plans for the metropolis.

The engagement, held at the Assembly’s Conference Room in Sekondi, brought together journalists from various media houses as well as heads of departments from across the Assembly. The departmental heads were present to provide technical clarifications and respond to questions from the media, ensuring that information shared was comprehensive and accurate.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) led the briefing and provided an overview of development interventions being implemented with funding from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Internally Generated Funds (IGF), and other statutory allocations.

He disclosed that the Assembly received approximately GH¢19.5 million from the District Assemblies Common Fund in 2025. Including allocations for Persons with Disabilities, Members of Parliament, education, and health-related interventions, the total development allocation for the year stood at about GH¢23 million.

The MCE explained that the Assembly has utilized these funds in line with national guidelines to implement projects across education, health, water, sanitation, and administration within the three constituencies that make up the metropolis, that is, Sekondi, Takoradi, and Essikado-Ketan.

Among key education interventions highlighted were the construction of a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Kobina Ejan Primary School in Adiembra, a two-unit kindergarten block at Sekondi Model Nursery School, and a three-unit classroom block at Prophet and Cancer Basic School in Kojokrom. He noted that due to limited land availability within the metropolis, the Assembly has adopted concrete roofing systems for selected school infrastructure to allow for future vertical expansion.

In the health sector, the Assembly is constructing two CHPS compounds at Eshiem and Kansaworodo to improve access to primary healthcare services, particularly in underserved communities.

Additionally, the Assembly has completed several sanitation and water projects, including the construction of three six-seater water closet toilet facilities at Zion School in Anaji, St. Anne’s Basic School at Bakaekyir, and Ahantaman Mampong. Ten mechanized boreholes have also been provided across various communities to improve access to potable water.

The MCE further disclosed that the Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metro Office, previously operating from an incomplete structure, has now been fully rehabilitated and handed over for use. Renovation and painting works have also been completed at the STMA Head Office to improve its condition and administrative environment.

As part of efforts to enhance safety and security in schools, the Assembly undertook rehabilitation works at Bishop O’Rourke Basic School in Takoradi, including roofing, painting, structural repairs, and the construction of a perimeter fence wall.

The MCE emphasized that project siting and implementation were guided by infrastructure needs and the goal of ensuring equitable development across all parts of the metropolis.

He also explained that the Assembly remains committed to strengthening public communication and accountability. In line with this, management has resolved to institutionalize such media briefings on a quarterly basis to regularly update the public on ongoing projects and development outcomes.

The media engagement also provided an open forum for journalists to ask questions and seek clarification on any issues relating to the Assembly’s operations, further strengthening transparency and public dialogue.

The MCE encouraged the media to continue playing a key role in informing the public and supporting development communication within the metropolis.
