Takoradi, Ghana – June 2026
Residents of Chapel Hill in Takoradi have commended the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for its swift and professional response in restoring electricity supply after a rainstorm damaged a key section of the power distribution network last Thursday evening.
The heavy rains and strong winds brought down an electricity pole connecting the Chapel Hill area, including Melody FM, to the national grid, plunging the community into total darkness throughout Thursday night and most of Friday.
The outage disrupted activities in homes, businesses, and institutions, causing considerable inconvenience to residents.

Following reports of the incident, ECG’s Western Regional management quickly mobilized engineers and technical personnel to the scene to assess the damage and begin repair works. Despite persistent rainfall and difficult working conditions, the repair team remained at the site and worked through the rain to restore power to the affected community.
Residents who witnessed the operation praised the commitment and determination of the workers, who continued their duties in the adverse weather conditions to ensure that electricity was restored as quickly as possible.
Their efforts paid off when power supply was successfully restored on Friday evening, bringing relief to residents and businesses in the area.
Special commendation has been extended to Ing. Yaw Sarfo, Acting General Manager of ECG Western Region, for his leadership and commitment to efficient service delivery. Recognition has also been given to Ing. George Adokoh, District Manager for Takoradi, whose supervision and coordination contributed significantly to the successful restoration effort.
Residents have equally acknowledged the role of Awal, Public Relations Officer of ECG Western Region. A phone call to the PRO drew immediate attention to the urgency of the situation and facilitated communication that helped expedite the response.
The dedication displayed by the ECG team, particularly the field workers who braved the rain to repair the damaged infrastructure, has earned widespread praise from residents of Chapel Hill. Many have described the response as a demonstration of ECG’s commitment to customer service and its determination to restore essential services even under challenging circumstances.
Residents have expressed their gratitude to the entire ECG Western Region team for their timely intervention and professionalism, noting that their efforts significantly reduced the duration and impact of the outage on the community.
