Barcelona are setting their sights on strengthening multiple key positions this summer as they aim to improve their squad for another run at Champions League glory next season, sources have told ESPN.
The Catalan giants are on the verge of winning LaLiga, needing just two points from their remaining fixtures to complete a domestic treble. However, their European ambitions were cut short last week when they suffered a semifinal defeat to Inter Milan.
While financial constraints could limit their activity in the transfer market, sources indicate that some player departures are expected to free up resources for new acquisitions. Sporting director Deco and his recruitment team have reportedly developed multiple strategies for reinforcing the squad, depending on the funds available.
Barcelona are looking at three key positions: a central defender, a full-back, and a left winger. The club has yet to settle on firm targets, but previous interests in Marcus Rashford, Nico Williams, and Luis Díaz remain possibilities. Speaking to ESPN, Deco acknowledged the growing reliance on wingers Lamine Yamal and Raphinha and hinted at the need for reinforcements in that area.
Barça were interested in Manchester United’s Rashford in January before his temporary move to Aston Villa, while they previously explored a deal for Williams from Athletic Club. Meanwhile, Díaz, a long-time target, is reportedly close to signing a new contract with Liverpool, which could make any potential pursuit more challenging.
In defense, Barcelona had discussions with Jonathan Tah, who will leave Bayer Leverkusen when his contract expires in June. However, interest has cooled, with Bayern Munich now favorites to sign the German international.
Despite having depth at center-back—including Pau Cubarsí, Iñigo Martínez, Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen, and Eric García—sources suggest that departures are expected, prompting the need for reinforcements at the position.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Barcelona’s recruitment plans remain fluid, but their ambition to strengthen key areas is clear as they prepare for another competitive season ahead.
