A major fire incident occurred on Wednesday morning at the Flour Mills Ghana Company Ltd, located at the GAFCO Yard in Tema, resulting in the destruction of vital electrical equipment and production machinery.

The fire, which broke out in the upper floors of the 10-storey building, spread rapidly from the 4th to the 10th floors. According to reports, the flames damaged electrical panels, power cables, and key production machinery used in the company’s operations.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to a distress call at 8:46 a.m., helping to contain what could have been a much more devastating incident. Ebenezer K. Yenzu, Public Relations Officer for the GNFS in the Tema Region, confirmed that the fire was brought under control by 10:08 a.m. and fully extinguished by 12:38 p.m.

“Our timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading further. Only one person was affected by smoke inhalation, and he was treated and discharged from the GPHA Clinic,” Yenzu stated.

In the aftermath of the incident, Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusie Sarpong Ntow, along with other senior GNFS officials, visited the scene to assess the damage and commend the firefighters for their quick action. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but investigations are expected to begin shortly.

While the damage to equipment is significant, the quick response by the fire service helped prevent injuries and further destruction. Flour Mills Ghana is expected to cooperate fully with authorities as investigations proceed.
