The Ghana Police Service and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) have signed an agreement to train and employ 12,000 young Ghanaians.
The goal is to reduce youth unemployment and support the Police Service with more trained personnel.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to start the programme. The youth will receive training in basic policing and intelligence gathering.
The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed–Mubarak, said the move will strengthen the police force and help maintain peace and security in the country. He added that teamwork between agencies is important for national development.
Hon. George Opare Addo, Minister for Youth Employment and Development, thanked the Interior Ministry for the partnership and promised continued support from his ministry.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, explained that the new recruits will be trained by the Police Service before joining the workforce.
The CEO of YEA, Mr. Malik Basintale, said the programme will create thousands of jobs while helping the police carry out their duties better.
This partnership is a big step toward solving youth unemployment in Ghana and improving the capacity of the Ghana Police Service.
