Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, a second-year student of Adventist Senior High School, is now on the path to full recovery following successful eye surgery in the United Kingdom. Suzzy made headlines earlier this year after she sustained serious eye injuries from an accidental shooting incident.
According to a statement shared by Rafik Mahama, special aide to businessman Ibrahim Mahama, Suzzy underwent surgery on June 2, 2025, at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London—one of the world’s leading eye care institutions.
“I am pleased to announce that Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang successfully underwent her scheduled eye surgery… The operation was a success, and she is now on the path to full recovery. She has already begun regaining her independence and is now able to see on her own,” Mahama posted on Facebook on Thursday, June 26.
Rafik Mahama extended deep appreciation to the medical teams in both Ghana and the UK, with special praise for the staff at Moorfields. He also acknowledged several key individuals and institutions whose support made the surgery possible.
Among those mentioned were:
- Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs
- Ghana High Commission in London
- Outgoing UK High Commissioner to Ghana, HE Harriet Thompson
- Francis Asenso-Boakye, Ghanaian MP
- Roger Pope Opticians in London
- Suzzy’s family, the media, and the general public
Rafik Mahama also highlighted the pivotal role of Ibrahim Mahama, whose financial and logistical support ensured that Suzzy received the urgent medical attention she needed abroad.
“We are especially grateful to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, whose generosity and full support made this entire process possible for Suzzy,” Rafik stated.
Suzzy was flown to the UK on May 10, 2025, under the sponsorship of Ibrahim Mahama and with assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her case had sparked nationwide concern, with calls for urgent intervention from the public and media.
The success of Suzzy’s surgery has been widely celebrated as a powerful example of what collective goodwill, private support, and government cooperation can achieve. Her story continues to inspire hope and renewed calls for better emergency healthcare support systems in Ghana.
