National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is calling for the immediate removal of Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa, claiming the commission is no longer fit for purpose. Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, June 11, Mr. Nketia stated that the EC’s actions have undermined public confidence and electoral integrity.

He highlighted the disenfranchisement of the people in the Guan Constituency—comprising Santrofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL)—during the 2020 general elections. “For four years, they had no representation in Parliament, which is unconstitutional and unacceptable,” he said, adding that the issue was only resolved when Fred Agbenyo won a delayed election in 2024.

Asiedu Nketia also criticized the EC’s handling of the Ablekuma North elections, accusing it of procedural inconsistencies and administrative confusion. “If election results cannot be declared properly, then we must question the motives behind these irregularities,” he asserted.

He promised continued pressure until a formal petition is filed to initiate the constitutional removal process. “Elections must be run by professionals—not political appointees who act with impunity,” he concluded.
