Ghanaian reggae musician based in Germany, David Oscar has revealed that his passion for music is rooted in message and purpose—not money. Speaking in an exclusive interview today with Haruna Babangida on the PM Jam on Melody 91.1 FM, the artiste said his music is heavily inspired by the legendary Bob Marley’s writing style, which focused more on truth, consciousness, and uplifting messages than commercial gain.
The reggae artiste made it clear that financial gain is not his primary motivation.
“I don’t do music for money. Music is spiritual to me. Like Bob Marley—his writing wasn’t about selling records, it was about changing minds and freeing souls,” he said during the interview.
He was featured on the PM Jam to promote his latest single, which was released earlier this week and is already receiving airplay both locally and internationally. The new track is said to fuse conscious lyrics with classic roots reggae sounds—true to his signature style.
The artiste praised Bob Marley for his fearless approach to lyrics and storytelling. “Bob wrote what needed to be said. He used his platform to speak truth to power and connect people to their roots. That’s the kind of legacy I want to build too,” he told Haruna Babangida.
He also emphasized the importance of African identity and the need for modern musicians to remember the role of music in nation-building and consciousness-raising.
He was speaking on the lines of his new single, “Counting My Blessings”. He also hinted he was preparing to release his second album soon.
