The Minister for Employment, Jobs, and Labour Relations, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has appealed to the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to suspend its planned strike scheduled for Monday, June 9, 2025.
GRNMA announced its intention to embark on industrial action on May 28, citing unresolved concerns regarding their conditions of service.
Dr. Pelpuo warned that the strike could seriously disrupt healthcare services across the country. He urged all parties involved to prioritize dialogue and collaboration to resolve outstanding issues.
“When there’s a strike, the impact goes beyond the sector—it affects the entire society and hampers development,” he stated.
Meanwhile, several health unions, including the National Association of Registered Midwives Ghana, have distanced themselves from the planned action. In a joint statement, these unions expressed disagreement with GRNMA’s interpretation of a previous collective resolution.
GRNMA responded by criticizing the dissenting groups, accusing them of weakening efforts to secure better conditions for nurses and midwives. The Association insists that the strike is necessary to push for improved welfare for its members.
