Missing UEW Lecturer Found Buried Behind His Home; One Arrested

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Professor Amedeke, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has been found secretly buried behind his own home in Gyahadze, a suburb of Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana.

His disappearance had prompted concern from both family and colleagues, leading to a formal police investigation. On Thursday, May 22, 2025, officers visited the lecturer’s residence, where they discovered blood stains inside the house. The search led to a heap of sand just 23 meters from the building and beneath it, the body of the missing lecturer.

Following the discovery, police arrested a suspect identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, who was found at the deceased’s residence. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was in possession of several personal items belonging to Professor Amedeke, including: Two Samsung smartphones, a laptop, a 50-inch television and a car key to a Toyota Fortuner. These items have been recovered as part of the ongoing criminal investigation.

The remains of Professor Amedeke have since been retrieved and deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy. The autopsy will help determine the exact cause of death, as investigators work to unravel the full details surrounding the murder. The Central Regional Police Command has assured the public of its dedication to pursuing justice in the case. Joshua Karry Arthur remains in custody and is expected to be formally arraigned in court soon.

News of the lecturer’s death has sent shockwaves through the UEW community and the town of Winneba, where residents are still grappling with the gruesome nature of the crime.
