Ghana’s Parliament has officially resumed sittings today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, marking the start of the Second Meeting of the First Session of the 9th Parliament. This comes after a break observed during the Easter period.

With the resumption, Members of Parliament are expected to engage in a full schedule of legislative activity. The agenda includes debates, committee work, and deliberations on pressing national matters.

A major highlight of this parliamentary session will be the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, scheduled for August. The Finance Minister is expected to appear before the House to update members and the public on the nation’s economic performance and outline adjustments to the budget for the remainder of the year.

Second Deputy Majority Whip Richard Acheampong noted that ministers will also be given the platform to present statements, allowing Parliament to assess their achievements and future plans.

In preparation for the session, the Minority Caucus held a strategic retreat over the weekend. The aim was to evaluate their performance and set key priorities for the weeks ahead.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasized the caucus’s commitment to effective parliamentary oversight and signaled confidence ahead of the next political cycle.

“We are sending a strong message to our opponents—we will hold their feet to the fire while remaining a responsible opposition. I assure Ghanaians that we are ready to take power in 2028,” he stated.

As Parliament resumes, all eyes will be on how lawmakers address critical national challenges and shape policy direction for the rest of the year.
