President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to good governance and transparency by announcing the establishment of a Governance Advisory Council. This move fulfills a key promise he made during the 2024 election campaign.

On Monday, May 26, President Mahama held a meeting with representatives from several civil society organizations to discuss the structure and role of the new Council.

“This is a key promise from my campaign, which is intended to enhance accountability and transform our governance system,” President Mahama shared in a Facebook post after the meeting.

The Council will function as an independent watchdog, with a mandate to monitor human rights, corruption, and general governance practices in Ghana. It will also be responsible for publishing an annual report on these critical issues.

“An annual report on human rights, corruption, and governance will be key to transparency and progress,” Mahama noted. “I am committed to creating a transparent, accountable government that reflects the values of our beloved country.”

The initiative is expected to boost public trust, strengthen institutions, and support efforts to build a more accountable and citizen-centered government.
