STMA Launches Free 3-Day Market Program to Ease Traffic and Support Western Region Traders

Takoradi, Ghana – October 15, 2025: Story By Haruna Babangida

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has announced a new 3-day market program to begin this Friday, aimed at decongesting the city and offering structured trading opportunities for traders throughout the Western Region.

In an interview on AM Buzz with 2KD on Melody 91.1 FM, STMA officials including Madam Georgina Aduhene (Head of Revenue), Precious Appoh (Assistant Director), Madam Afia Sintim Aboagy, and Madam Perpetual Okyere, disclosed that not all traders from the Takoradi Jubilee Park relocated to Apremodo Market. Instead, some moved to a newly constructed STMA market near the Paa Grant Roundabout.

To manage growing trade activity, the STMA is introducing dedicated market days every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Fridays will focus on bulk breaking, enabling wholesalers to distribute goods in smaller quantities to retailers and final consumers.

This initiative is free to join—no registration or fees are required. It is also open to all traders within the Western Region, not limited to those in Takoradi.

To ease vehicular and human congestion, selected streets—particularly the New Market Streets—will be blocked from vehicular traffic during market hours. This follows prior engagement with key stakeholders to ensure public safety and minimal disruption.

The Assembly is urging traders to take advantage of this opportunity while adhering to all operational guidelines. This collaborative effort aims to boost local commerce while maintaining order within Takoradi’s central business district.

  • Start Date: This coming Friday
  • Market Days: Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Fee: Completely Free (No Registration Required)
  • Location: New Market Streets and approved satellite spaces

For further details, traders and residents are encouraged to tune in to Melody 91.1 FM and follow STMA’s official communication channels.
