The United States Embassy in Accra has issued a strong reassurance to Ghanaians amid fears of being affected by a possible expansion of the U.S. travel ban.
In response to a Reuters report that the Trump administration is considering adding up to 36 countries — possibly including Ghana — to its list of travel-restricted nations, the Embassy stated:
“We remain committed to welcoming visitors from Ghana who wish to study, invest, or engage in business activities in the United States.”
Although the U.S. government has not released an official list, a leaked State Department cable triggered concern across affected countries. However, the Embassy’s message emphasizes that Ghanaian nationals with legitimate intentions are still welcome.
Key Highlights from the Embassy’s Statement:
Legal Compliance is Essential: The Embassy cautioned that violations — such as illegal entry, falsifying visa information, unauthorized work, or overstaying — will be penalized.
Avoid Fraudsters and Fixers:
The Embassy emphasized that visa applications should be done directly and only through the official U.S. Embassy portal.
“You do not need the services of a fixer or visa consultant to apply for a U.S. visa!”
It further warned: “No fixer or consultant can guarantee you a visa. Any such promises are fraudulent.”
This announcement aims to reduce anxiety among prospective travelers and students, while also reinforcing proper procedures and compliance with immigration laws.
As global immigration policies tighten, the U.S. Embassy continues to encourage genuine engagement, lawful applications, and transparency for all Ghanaian citizens seeking to travel or do business in America.
