The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) officially comes to a close today, Wednesday, June 18, with candidates writing the final paper in Arabic (Essay & Objective). The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed satisfaction with the overall smooth conduct of this year’s exams across the country.

Speaking on the exam’s progress, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, commended the efforts of all stakeholders involved. “On our part, we will pat ourselves on the back and say we did a good job,” Mr. Kapi said in an interview on Tuesday, June 17. “What you expect as an examining body is that every candidate gets the opportunity to write the exams—with question papers, stationery, and other logistics. And all of these reached the candidates.”

While WAEC acknowledged a few minor setbacks, such as delivery delays caused by a vehicle breakdown and difficult terrain in remote areas, the issues were quickly addressed. “On subsequent days, they decided to provide an extra vehicle, and so they were able to make it in good time,” Mr. Kapi added.

WAEC considers the successful administration of the 2025 BECE a major achievement, noting that all candidates had the opportunity to sit for their papers without significant disruption.

The BECE is a critical national examination for final-year junior high school students in Ghana, and its successful conduct reflects the collaboration between WAEC, schools, and educational authorities nationwide.
