PSG join Premier League duo in De Jong race

Published

on

Paris Saint-Germain will battle Manchester United and Chelsea for Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong.

Midfielder De Jong, 26, joined Barca from Ajax in 2019 and has made 207 appearances across all competitions since heading to Catalonia.

United and Chelsea are known admirers of the Netherlands international, though Spanish outlet Sport say they will face competition from the French champions in any bidding war.

PSG are expected to be active in the summer transfer market with talisman Kylian Mbappe set to join Real Madrid.

Getting Mbappe off the wage bill would free up significant funds for Les Parisiens — though the report suggests they currently value De Jong at closer to £68.5m.

Given his contract still has two years to run, Barca are in a position of power but their very public financial woes do weaken their hand somewhat in negotiations.

Erik ten Hag worked with De Jong previously at Ajax and is keen for the Red Devils to make a third bid for his signature, having failed with attempts in 2019 and 2022.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are set for another busy summer of incomings and outgoings as owner Todd Boehly looks to reshuffle his underperforming pack at Stamford Bridge.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has reassured the public that the missing Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) Kits cannot be utilised to access its system or data.

According to Dr Eric Bossman Asare, the BVRs, which include a laptop, are ineffective on their own and can only be activated by the EC.

Thus, they pose no threat to the integrity of elections, he stated.

Additionally, they cannot be used to register anyone during the ongoing limited voter registration exercise nor do they contain any sensitive data from the EC’s system, he said in an interview with JoyNews’ Evans Mensah.

Dr Bossman Asare stated, “The laptops on their own are insignificant. They are just like the laptops you use at your workplace. We’ve accounted for every single device that we’re going to be using.

“In 2020, when we did the registration, we bought 8,500 of the registration devices. We are not using all of them in this registration.”

“So that means the ones we are using now, we still have some there. So are you saying the EC will come and tell the Ghanaian people that five laptops are missing and we want to use those laptops to register people? Who in the EC is going to do that?” he quizzed.
