President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to upgrade selected nursing and midwifery colleges in Ghana into degree-awarding institutions across the country.
Speaking on Saturday, May 31, during his Thank-You tour of the Ahafo Region, Mahama reiterated his commitment to strengthening tertiary education, especially in underserved regions.
“We remain committed to expanding tertiary education, especially in underserved regions. In line with this, the NDC government will establish a university in the Ahafo Region to offer world-class programmes in agriculture, natural resources, and health sciences,” he stated.
President Mahama emphasized that transforming health training institutions into degree-awarding colleges will help boost the professional development of nurses and midwives, ultimately enhancing the country’s healthcare delivery system.
He also promised to continue the distribution of buses to senior high schools (SHSs) and health training institutions to ease transportation challenges and support academic activities.
These initiatives form part of the NDC’s broader vision to expand access to quality education and promote inclusive development in all regions of Ghana.
