Jubilee Park Operations to End as MUSEC Orders Relocation of Transport and Market Activities

Effia-Kwesimintsim, Ghana – October 2, 2025
All transport and trading activities at the Jubilee Park in Effia-Kwesimintsim are set to cease this month following new directives issued by the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC).

The decision, aimed at repurposing the popular park, was announced after a MUSEC meeting held on Monday, September 29, 2025. The measures, which will take effect in phases, are expected to significantly alter the use of the Jubilee Park area.

According to the statement signed by the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of MUSEC, Hon. Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Nassam, the directives are as follows:

  • Transport operations at Jubilee Park must cease from Monday, October 6, 2025.
All transport operators currently operating from the park are to relocate to the Apremdo Central Market (Abenbebom) Lorry Station, where dedicated space has been allocated.
  • Bulk discharge of foodstuffs will only be allowed at the Apremdo Central Market starting October 6.
This move is expected to streamline food distribution activities and reduce congestion at the current site.
  • All market activity at Jubilee Park must end by Monday, October 13, 2025.
Traders who fail to comply risk facing sanctions, including possible forfeiture of goods, in accordance with the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly’s bye-laws.

MUSEC has called for the full cooperation of all stakeholders — including transport unions, market traders, and the general public — to ensure a smooth and peaceful relocation process.

“This move is in line with the Assembly’s broader plans to repurpose Jubilee Park for future development,” said Hon. Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Nassam.

The Municipal Assembly emphasized that these changes are necessary to pave the way for long-term redevelopment plans intended to benefit the wider community.

The Assembly is expected to begin monitoring compliance starting from the first effective date, October 6. Officials have also encouraged affected individuals to seek guidance and support from the Assembly if needed during the transition.
