One of Ghana’s most iconic voices, Kwabena Kwabena, has credited rapper Kontihene as the driving force behind the success of his breakout hit “Aso”, which turns 20 this year.
In an interview on Melody FM’s Homestretch with Quorby Spencer, Kwabena Kwabena shared never-before-heard insights into the early days of his music journey. According to him, the song almost never saw the light of day.
“Back then, all the big producers turned it down. Nobody saw the potential in ‘Aso’. But Kontihene believed in me. He put his weight behind the song, and that’s how it became a hit,” he revealed.
The heartfelt revelation comes ahead of the highly anticipated Aso @ 20 Anniversary Celebration, scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Takoradi Mall. The event will celebrate two decades of musical excellence and the timeless impact of one of Ghana’s most beloved songs.
Kwabena Kwabena also hinted at a special remix of “Aso”, featuring some respected Ghanaian artistes. While he didn’t drop names, he promised fans a powerful collaboration worthy of the song’s legacy.
“Aso” not only introduced Kwabena Kwabena to mainstream audiences but also became a staple in Ghana’s highlife and love song playlists, making its mark across generations.
