STMA Engages Eshiem Residents On Development Needs

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has engaged residents of Eshiem as part of its ongoing community engagement initiative aimed at strengthening local governance and addressing pressing development concerns.

The engagement, held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, brought together residents, community leaders, and officials of the Assembly to discuss ongoing projects and challenges affecting the area.

Progress on CHPS Compound

Metropolitan Chief Executive, Frederick Faidoo, together with the Metropolitan Engineer, provided updates on the construction of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound.

According to the MCE, the project, which commenced in November last year, has reached the lintel stage and is expected to be completed by the end of July.

He noted that the facility will include consultation rooms, male and female wards, a labour and delivery ward, a laboratory, a waiting area, staff accommodation, and a borehole. The project is expected to serve Eshiem and surrounding communities upon completion.

Assembly Outlines Development Efforts

Addressing residents, the MCE conveyed greetings from the Assembly and the President, and highlighted ongoing development efforts across the metropolis.

He explained that the Assembly funds its projects through internally generated funds, including taxes and fines, as well as allocations from the District Assemblies Common Fund.

He further outlined key projects undertaken by the Assembly, including the construction of CHPS compounds, provision of water closet facilities in schools, school renovations, and the drilling of boreholes across the metropolis.

Residents Voice Concerns

Residents used the platform to raise several challenges affecting the community, with inadequate street lighting emerging as a major concern. They called for the extension of electricity poles to improve power stability in the area.

Other concerns raised included:

  • Inadequate water supply and the need for additional boreholes
  • Poor road conditions and stalled construction projects
  • Disconnection of water pipelines during road works
  • Insufficient sanitation facilities
  • Obstruction of roads by heavy-duty trucks
  • Security concerns and the need for increased patrols
  • Network challenges and drainage issues

Residents also expressed concerns about the operations of some companies in the area, citing poor working conditions, and highlighted safety risks related to the location of a local school.

MCE Assures Residents of Action

Responding to the concerns, the MCE acknowledged the challenges and assured residents of the Assembly’s commitment to addressing them.

He noted that the issue of street lighting has already been escalated, with the Energy Commission compiling a list of affected communities, and assured that Eshiem would be prioritized.

He further indicated that the Assembly would engage relevant stakeholders, including companies operating in the area, to ensure compliance with regulations.

The MCE also assured residents that the Assembly would follow up on stalled road projects, engage railway authorities on affected infrastructure, and work with community leaders to address sanitation and safety concerns.
