The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has stepped up its sanitation efforts with a clean-up exercise across the Sekondi Sub-Metropolitan area as part of activities marking National Sanitation Day.
The exercise, held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, began at the Sekondi Market and extended to surrounding communities within the sub-metro, with active participation from market women, residents, and institutional stakeholders.
Metropolitan Chief Executive, Frederick Faidoo, indicated that the Assembly is adopting a more decentralized approach to sanitation by organizing clean-up exercises at the sub-metro level.
According to him, this strategy is aimed at ensuring regular and effective sanitation activities, rather than relying solely on a single large-scale exercise across the entire metropolis.

He noted that the new approach would help sustain cleanliness in communities and encourage greater public participation.
The exercise attracted support from several institutions, including personnel from the Ghana Navy and the Ghana National Fire Service, who joined residents in clearing waste and desilting drains.

Officials from the Assembly, as well as members of the media, were also present to support and monitor the exercise.
The MCE commended all participating groups, particularly the security services, for their commitment to improving sanitation within the metropolis.
The MCE further emphasized that sanitation is a shared responsibility and urged residents to take an active role in maintaining clean environments.
He expressed optimism that the sub-metro focused approach would encourage more consistent participation from the public, especially as the exercise directly involves communities.
