Takoradi Air Force Officers Assist Pedestrians/Schoolchildren After Footbridge Closure on Takoradi Airforce/axim road

Pedestrians and schoolchildren along the busy Airforce/Axim Road in Takoradi received timely assistance on Monday morning as officers of the Ghana Air Force of the Takoradi Base stepped in to help people cross the highway safely.

The intervention followed the temporary closure of the pedestrian footbridge opposite the Accra Station, which is currently undergoing maintenance works. With traffic moving at high speed on the stretch, the presence of the Air Force officers provided relief and protection for residents, workers, and children commuting to school.

Speaking to Haruna Babangida, one of the officers on duty, said the deployment was a preventive safety measure aimed at reducing road accidents and safeguarding lives. He explained that the team plans to continue assisting pedestrians even after the footbridge is reopened, citing concerns about the conduct of some motorists who use the road.

Several pedestrians who benefited from the exercise expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing the officers as disciplined, professional, and compassionate. Many noted that the intervention helped ease their morning commute and reduced the risk of accidents along the highway.

The Airforce/Axim Road remains one of Takoradi’s busiest roads in the mornings, and residents are calling for enhanced road safety measures to protect pedestrians, particularly during periods of infrastructure maintenance.
