The Trans African Tourism and Unity Campaign team has embarked on an ambitious 163-day road trip across 39 African countries, championing the cause of a visa-free Africa while promoting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange across the continent.

Led by Ras Mubarak, a former Ghanaian legislator and broadcaster, the team departed Accra, Ghana, on August 18, 2025. So far, they have visited 17 countries, with all but Cameroon endorsing the campaign’s message of borderless African unity.

“Aside from Cameroon, all 16 countries have given a nod of acceptance to the campaign message and are working on rolling out the Borderless Africa initiative,” Ras Mubarak said during an interview on Melody FM’s AM Buzz show with host Kelvin Kofi Danso (2KD) from Zambia.

“A visa-free Africa by 2030 is not just a dream — it’s a necessity to unlock our continent’s potential in tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.”

The Government of Ghana, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has officially endorsed the campaign, recognizing its potential to advance the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) objectives and boost intra-African collaboration.

During their journey, the team has engaged government officials, diplomats, and communities to advocate for visa-free travel policies and regional integration. In Angola, the team met with the Minister of Tourism, H.E. Marcio de Jesus Lopes Daniel, who received a petition on behalf of the President of Angola and Chair of the African Union. The Angolan government pledged its full support for the initiative, acknowledging its potential to foster inclusive growth and shared prosperity across Africa.

The campaign has secured strong media backing, with major partners including Melody FM, Graphic Communications Group Limited, New Mail Nigeria Online, EIB Network, Woezor TV, Eyewitness News Sierra Leone, and Asaase Radio. These partnerships aim to ensure widespread coverage and engage citizens in meaningful discussions about African mobility and unity.

As the journey continues, the team is expected to secure additional commitments from African governments to:

  • Adopt and implement visa-free travel policies
  • Encourage cross-cultural exchange and tourism
  • Strengthen AfCFTA’s mandate to enhance intra-African trade

The Trans African Tourism and Unity Campaign stands as a Pan-African movement for a visa-free Africa by 2030, leveraging tourism as a driver of unity, economic empowerment, and cultural exchange. With the support of governments, media partners, and African citizens, the initiative seeks to reshape the continent’s economic and social future — one border at a time.
