The Planning Committee for the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology (FAAT) Open Day 2026 at Takoradi Technical University has secured the participation of the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who is expected to attend this year’s celebration scheduled for July 2026.

The Speaker’s participation follows a courtesy call by the FAAT Open Day 2026 Planning Committee on Tuesday, 10th June 2026, during which an official invitation was presented. The delegation was led by Prof. Frederick Boakye-Yiadom, Vice Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Planning Committee, and included Dr. Moses Akrofi, Head of the Department of Textile Design and Technology, and Mr. Samuel Asiedu. Also present at the meeting, accompanying the Rt. Hon. Speaker, was his Special Aide, Prof. Damasus Tuurosong.

The 2026 FAAT Open Day is under the theme “Celebrating Innovation and Excellence: A Tribute to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s Legacy.” The event is designed to honour the contributions of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II through four thematic areas: education, health, chieftaincy, and the environment. The Asantehene is also billed to serve as the Grand Guest of Honour for the opening ceremony.

During the engagement, the Speaker expressed appreciation for the invitation and confirmed his intention to attend the event. He commended Takoradi Technical University for its continued efforts in promoting innovation, cultural heritage, and national development through academic and community engagement initiatives.

The Speaker further reflected on the importance of preserving African intellectual heritage, referencing Anton Wilhelm Amo as a symbol of Africa’s historical contribution to global scholarship. He also highlighted the importance of heritage preservation, citing UNESCO’s guiding principle, “Heritage: A Gift from the Past to the Future,” and emphasized the need to protect cultural and historical assets for future generations.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Prof. Frederick Boakye-Yiadom noted that the FAAT Open Day is rooted in the appreciation of heritage as a bridge between the past, present, and future. He reaffirmed UNESCO’s view that cultural and natural heritage remain irreplaceable sources of identity, inspiration, and development.

The FAAT Open Day 2026 is expected to serve as a platform for showcasing innovation, creativity, and technological advancement while strengthening dialogue on Ghana’s cultural heritage and national development priorities.
