Takoradi, June 5, 2026
Stakeholders from government, academia, faith-based organizations, and civil society have renewed calls for environmental protection and sustainable practices during a World Environment Day workshop held at the NAT Auditorium of Takoradi Technical University (TTU).
The event, which commenced at 9:00 a.m., brought together distinguished professionals and environmental advocates to discuss the urgent need to protect Ghana’s natural resources and promote climate-conscious actions.
The workshop was a collaborative initiative between the Church of Pentecost, Takoradi Technical University, the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and CorpNation Foundation to commemorate this year’s World Environment Day.
Addressing participants, speakers emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in preserving forests, safeguarding water bodies, and protecting the environment for future generations. Discussions focused on environmental stewardship, climate resilience, sustainable development, and the role of communities in addressing environmental challenges.
The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. He joined other dignitaries in highlighting the need for stronger partnerships among government institutions, educational establishments, religious bodies, and civil society organizations to advance environmental sustainability.
Participants were encouraged to learn, reflect, and renew their commitment to nature, recognizing that every act of environmental stewardship contributes to a lasting legacy of hope for future generations.

As part of activities marking the celebration, dignitaries and participants undertook a tree-planting exercise on the university campus. The initiative formed part of efforts to promote afforestation, enhance green spaces, and reinforce the significance of tree planting in combating climate change and environmental degradation.
Saviour Adzika aka Corpsavee, one of the organizers expressed optimism that the awareness created through the workshop and the tree-planting exercise would inspire individuals and institutions to take practical steps toward protecting the environment and securing a sustainable future for all.
World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5 to encourage global awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
